The Caire Lodge is located in the villa of Alter-do-Chao in the ancient rain forest hills on the banks of the Tapajós river, a 30 minute drive from the international airport of Santarém, halfway between Manaus and Belém, close to where the Tapajós river meets the mighty Amazon.
The crystal clear waters of the Tapajos River and its heavenly beaches have given this region the name of “Caribbean Amazon”. The boat is the best means of transport to reach places that are still unvisited like Moça (young girl) or Jacaré (cayman) beaches. Among the other sublime beaches of the region, we would recommend Cururu, Ponte de Pedras and Ilha do Amor (island of love), the most famous one in Alter. The contrast between the white sand and turquoise blue water is breathtaking.
To fly there, please look for international flights to Manaus or Belem, Brazil. From there the fligth to Santarem is an hour long, on local carriers (Gol, TAM and other smaller regional airline companies).
